On Friday, February 10, the Aldine Children's Honor Choir was honored to perform at the 2017 Texas Music Educators' Association Convention in San Antonio. The choir was selected as one of two outstanding district choirs in the State of Texas. The children rehearsed including a few Saturday rehearsals in preparation for this concert. The hard work was evident by their outstanding concert themed "Peace and Unity."
The children represented all of the 44 elementary and intermediate schools in Aldine ISD. The 94-member choir was directed by Kitty Amshoff, former Teague Middle School choir director, and Samantha Mansour, Kujawa Elementary music teacher. The Aldine Children's Honor Choir was organized under the leadership of Colleen Riddle, Director of Music Education and accompanied on the piano by Courtnay Holiday, Drew Academy choir director. Percussion accompaniment was by Jonathan Roberson, the Cypresswood Elementary music teacher. Assistants for the Honor Choir were David Dalton, Stephens Elementary music teacher, Mary Stevens, Mendel Elementary music teacher, and Jackie Spears, former Magrill Elementary music teacher.
“The Aldine Children's Honor Choir would like to thank the Aldine ISD music teachers for their dedication to fine music-making, parents of the choristers for their commitment to arts education, and the Aldine ISD Administrators and School Board for supporting extraordinary opportunities for our Aldine ISD children to become the ‘Nation's Best,’” Riddle said.
