The MacArthur High School Lady Generals finished in first place at the Irene “Rene” Hopkins Varsity Softball Tournament in dominating fashion.
The Lady Generals, under the direction of head coach Leechelle Lara, swept all six of their games en route to the title. They defeated Northside 16-0, Cy Springs 15-0, Elsik 10-3, Cy Ridge 15-0 and Summercreek 3-0 to advance to the finals, where they defeated Nimitz High 19-9. The Lady Generals outscored their six opponents 75-12. Junior pitcher Vanessa Espitia was named the tournament MVP. She won all six games and gave up only seven earned runs in 27 innings. Lady Generals named to the All-Tournament Team were freshmen Angel Morales and Yareny Victoria, and sophomores Desiree Castillo, Illyana Camacho and Lizabeth Munoz. The Lady Generals improved to 17-0 on the season and are currently 3-0 in District 16-6A play.
