Aldine ISD Feeds 2,664 With Houston Food Bank
Lines of cars wrapped around the M.O. Campbell Educational Center and down Aldine-Bender early Friday morning. Thousands of people waited in line for hours to receive free groceries. Groceries have become hard to find for some during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday, March 27, families in the Aldine community welcomed the generosity of the Houston Food Bank and the devotion of Aldine ISD as Aldine leadership and staff distributed boxes and bags of groceries containing dry goods, canned goods, and produce. The Houston Food Bank Backpack Buddy program contributed over 2,400 bags of groceries alongside the additional 250 meal boxes provided to the Aldine community for a total of 2,664 free boxes and bags of groceries.
With such significant lines and wait times, the need was apparent.
“We are here ready to serve our community whenever they are in need,” Dr. Selina Chapa, Aldine ISD deputy superintendent, said “We hope to continue working collaboratively with the City of Houston and the Houston Food Bank in helping support the Aldine community,” “We are prepared to do this as long as we are able to receive the support from the Houston Food Bank and Backpack Buddies.”
