Dear Aldine ISD Families:

School starts Monday, August 16 — we are just a few days away.

Welcome to our new families and staff members! Welcome back to our returning staff members and families. I have been visiting schools, talking to teachers and department leaders, and I can say that we are ready to Start Strong.

It’s great to celebrate the start of a new school year at Aldine ISD — a year that we anticipate will be full of exciting new opportunities, choices, and life-changing experiences for our students. We are excited to welcome all prekindergarten through 12th-grade students back to in-person learning as we continue our mission of providing a rigorous and enriching educational experience that prepares every student for success in college, career, and life.

Even though the pandemic continues to be a part of our lives, we will not let this put a damper on our spirits or change our focus. We are determined to continue to meet students’ academic and social and emotional needs. The top priorities of Aldine ISD are the safety and academic success of all students.

To protect staff and students from the spread of COVID-19, Aldine ISD is following guidance from the Harris County Health Department and County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s most recent order. We are mandating that all staff, students, and visitors wear a mask on all Aldine ISD buses and while on campuses and in administrative buildings. We believe this is the right decision for everyone’s well-being.

We were able to keep our students and staff safe last year, in large part, due to universal masking. It has been proven that the three Ws — wearing a mask, washing your hands, and watching your distance — effectively prevent the spread of the virus. We will continue to share this message with our community.

As Aldine ISD continues to provide in-person learning, protocols and information for families have been updated for the 2021-2022 school year. These protocols are constantly revisited to address any changes from the Texas Education Agency TEA, CDC, state and local health guidelines.

Communication

At this time, there is no requirement that the district continue to provide general communications or contact tracing. However, Aldine ISD will share information about confirmed cases with our community, update our COVID-19 dashboard, and complete contract tracing, just as we did last year. Anyone who is considered a close contact of the infected person as defined by TEA guidelines will be notified directly.

On-Campus Learning

We’re ready to welcome all of our students to on-campus learning and, at this time, do not have a virtual learning option planned. We will continue to go as fast as we can but as slow as we must to ensure we are prioritizing safety without sacrificing learning.

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccines in Aldine Area

We will continue to work with community partners to help ensure our community is educated and has access to testing and vaccines.

Testing: Drive-thru rapid COVID-19 testing is available for all Aldine ISD students and staff at the M.B. Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Services Building. Please note that online registration is required. Additionally, there are testing sites available across the Aldine ISD community.

Vaccinations: The district continues to work with local health organizations to communicate the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine.

A Back to School COVID-19 Vaccination Event is set for Monday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., for Aldine ISD students, staff, and community ages 12 and up who have not previously been vaccinated. This vaccine event will be held at M. O. Campbell Educational Center. For details and how to register online, click here. Additional opportunities will be planned throughout the school year.

We continue to believe that if everyone does their part, we can continue to keep our students, staff, families, and communities healthy.

This will be another year focused on academic progress and achievement. We look forward to continuing to build our partnership with those who support students — whether you are parents, grandparents, family members or community leaders. Working together, we will ensure our students reach their full potential.
