Back-to-School 2024: Excitement for Aldine ISD Students

Aldine ISD students on the traditional calendar returned to school on Monday, August 12. As new and returning students returned to class, campus halls and classrooms were abuzz with activity.

The 2024-25 school year marks Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney’s seventh year at the helm of Aldine ISD.

“The first day of school has always been one of my favorite days,” said Goffney. “Everyone’s excitement is contagious! On the first day of school, I began my morning visiting with students in our new HEAL Program at Nimitz High School, where we had media coverage from the Houston Chronicle and KHOU-Channel 11 News. I also visited with students and staff at Reed Academy, Worsham Elementary, García-Leza Primary, and Jones Middle School. On our second day of school, I visited Blanson CTE High School, Carmichael Elementary, Hambrick Middle, and Black Elementary.

“Now and throughout the year, I’ll be visiting classrooms. It reminds me of why I choose to impact students’ lives. I couldn’t be prouder of the staff for making it happen for all our students each and every day.”

There is much to be excited about in Aldine ISD, from HEAL, the new CTE program at Nimitz HS (a partnership with Memorial Hermann) to the newly renovated and improved W.W. Thorne Stadium, a new strategic plan, Accelerate (more information to come), a balanced budget that allowed for a midpoint salary increase of 1.8%, the start of $1.8 billion-dollar Bond 2023 projects, and continued focus on CCMR (College, Career, and Military Ready) initiatives, to name a few.
