Aldine ISD Board Celebrates Student Success, Civic Engagement, and District Accomplishments at July Board Meeting

The Aldine ISD Board of Trustees recognized student achievements, heard from students about their experiences with Aldine Votes, and approved items supporting students, staff, and families during its July 21 board meeting.

Recognition of Students, Staff, and Patrons

Chief Communications Officer Sheila Adams highlighted June events and accomplishments across the district.

Nimitz High School student Ta’Mya Holmes recently completed the prestigious Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Western Art Academy at Schreiner University, where she spent four weeks developing advanced skills in oil painting and sculpture while earning college credit.
Aldine ISD was named a Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) District of Distinction for the eighth consecutive year, placing the district among a select group of Texas school systems recognized for outstanding visual arts education.
Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, began her term as the 2026-27 president of AASA, The School Superintendents Association, representing more than 13,000 school system leaders nationwide.
Aldine ISD will host its Back-to-School Expo on July 30 to provide families with resources and support ahead of the 2026–27 school year. The event will include free school supplies, connections with community partners, and information to ensure students and families have the tools needed for a successful start to the school year.

Aldine Votes

Students involved in Aldine Votes, the districtwide civic engagement initiative that encourages young people to become active in their communities through outreach, volunteering, and voter engagement, shared how the program has impacted their lives.

During the board meeting, students reflected on the unique opportunities provided through Aldine Votes, including recent trips to Washington, D.C., and New York. For many students, the trips marked their first time traveling outside of Texas, giving them the opportunity to explore new places, meet students from across the country, and broaden their perspectives.

Students also shared how these experiences have strengthened their leadership skills, built their confidence, and inspired them to become more engaged in their schools and communities. Through workshops, field trips, legislative visits, and on-campus civic engagement clubs, Aldine Votes transforms civic learning into meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare students to become informed and engaged citizens.
