ADSY Campuses Welcome Students Back for Another Year of Growth and Learning
As students across Aldine ISD head back to school on Aug. 12, classrooms at Ermel Elementary, Vines Primary and Harris Elementary are already filled with learning. These campuses are part of the district’s Additional Days School Year (ADSY) program, an innovative calendar that gives students 30 additional instructional days designed to strengthen academic growth and reduce summer learning loss.
ADSY was first introduced at Ermel Elementary and Vines Primary during the 2021-22 school year before expanding to additional campuses, including Harris Elementary, following early success. The program provides students with more opportunities for personalized instruction, project-based learning, enrichment activities and meaningful connections with teachers.
For Vines Elementary Principal Dr. Brandy Gonzalez, the earlier start is about ensuring students maintain the progress they made during the previous school year.
“The primary reason is to combat summer learning loss. Research shows that the longer students are out of school during the summer, the less information they retain. Being back in school earlier helps reinforce those skills and allows students to continue practicing what they’ve learned.”
By reducing the amount of instructional time lost over the summer, ADSY allows students to continue building on prior knowledge instead of relearning concepts from the previous year.
This school year, Vines Elementary is focused on ensuring every student experiences measurable academic growth.
“Our biggest goal is making sure that all students are growing. No matter where students begin the year, we want to see growth from every student,” said Gonzalez.
In addition to academic support, ADSY also provides teachers with additional time to deliver individualized support, collaborate with colleagues and create meaningful learning experiences that help students succeed both academically and socially.
As students return to Ermel Elementary, Vines Primary and Harris Elementary, Aldine ISD remains committed to providing every child with the resources, support and opportunities they need to reach their full potential. Through the Additional Days School Year program, the district continues to invest in student success by creating more time for learning, stronger relationships and continued academic growth.
Families can look forward to another year of collaboration, achievement and memorable experiences as students begin the school year with a strong foundation for success.
