First and second place winners of the district event now advance to the regional event. They will compete Friday, Feb. 27 at the Aldine Staff Development Center.

Every year National History Day frames students’ research within a historical theme. This year’s theme is “Leadership & Legacy in History.” The theme for National History Day provides an opportunity for students. Their research will help them understand the past to push past. The goal is that students develop perspective and understanding.

National History Day students learn to dig deep in their research. The program challenges students to conduct inquiry. They develop research skills, analytical thinking, literacy skills and creative expression. Aldine ISD social studies program directors encourage students to take part in NHD. The constant honing of skills [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]helps students be successful.

Students that win at the regional event will advance to the state event set for May 2 in Austin.

These events are all leading up to National History Day. [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]State NHD contest winners will be eligible to attend the National History Day Contest. The national event takes place each year at the University of Maryland at College Park in June. This is where the best National History Day projects from the U.S. all meet and compete.

Again, congratulations to all who placed in the district event. And good luck to everyone who advanced to the Regional History Fair!
