What is TRA?
The Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) is state funding through House Bill 2 (HB 2) that increases salaries for eligible classroom teachers based on years of experience.
Who Qualifies?
To receive TRA, you must:
- Be coded as a classroom teacher (PEIMS code 087)
- Work at least 4 hours a day in an academic or CTE classroom
- Have 3 or more years of creditable teaching experience
(Certification is not required, but aides and administrators do not qualify.)
How Much Will I Receive?
| Completed Experience | TRA Salary Increase |
| 3-4 years | $2,500 |
| 5+ years | $5,000 |
TRA is added to your base salary and paid out across your regular paychecks.
When Will It Start?
Increases will appear in the 2025-2026 salary schedule. TRA funds begin flowing to districts in September 2025.
Is It Ongoing?
Yes—if you stay eligible. Your experience and teaching assignment are reviewed each school year through PEIMS data. TRA eligibility is not permanent.
Other Key Info
- Fund source doesn’t matter—you still qualify.
- Contracted teachers may qualify if they meet the classroom teacher definition.
- Districts may adjust salary schedules after adoption to meet TRA rules.

HB2 requires that classroom teachers receiving the Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA), which is included in the Teacher Pay Scale, deliver a minimum of 4 hours of instruction to students each instructional day.
Because your position does not meet this legislative requirement and is not eligible for the TRA, your position was moved to the administrative / professional pay scale.
This move will not result in a pay adjustment and you will receive the board-approved raise of 1%.
