More than 600 pieces of western-themed art from students in grades PreK-12 will be on display.

The District’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) School Art Reception will take place on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center, located at 1865 Aldine Bender Road (Houston, TX 77032). The Awards Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m.

The reception and ceremony will take place upstairs in the Foyer.

Schools participating in the HLSR School Art Contest annually host district-level competitions. The Show’s School Art Committee visits districts in the Houston area to judge.

It is from the blue ribbon group that judges select the Best of Show, Gold Medal and Special Merit awards. Judges select winners in elementary, junior high and high school levels. All work by high school participants is eligible for the Show’s School Art Auction. The HLSR kicks off Feb. 25 at the NRG and ends Mar. 17.

Dr. Michaelann Kelley invites families, staff and community members to attend the reception. Kelley, director of visual arts, is hosting the event.

“The students created some wonderful western–themed artworks,“ Kelley said. “The reception is a great opportunity to come out and support our talented young artists.”

HLSR will hold an Awards Ceremony in March at the NRG Center.
