The program focuses on the prevention of violence in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father figures.

Hambrick Middle School launched a new program on the campus. Volunteers called WATCH D.O.G.S. can be seen in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and offices at Hambrick from now until the end of the school year.

These volunteers are the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, community members as well as family and friends of staff members who have joined the program. They are all a part of the nation-wide WATCH D.O.G.S. program, which was created in 1998 in one school and has grown to now include thousands of schools across the country.

The goal of the program is “to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.”

The campus hosted a Pizza With Dads night earlier this spring semester to introduce the program and its potential benefits to the school. Immediately several men signed up to take part.

Since then more volunteers have signed up and shown up, making connections with the students, visiting the classrooms, and partnering with the teachers to demonstrate the working connection between home and school.

The WATCH D.O.G.S. have commented on how middle school has changed since they attended school. They seek to positively impact students at the schools, but also in the community at large.

Hambrick MS students are proud to have their dads on campus visiting their classes and eating lunch with them and their friends.

“It has been a pleasure working with our WATCH D.O.G.S.  To see their excitement and the students’ reactions as they’ve engaged with them throughout the school day has been so heartwarming,” said Principal Dr. Rebecca Sandford. “Since beginning the program, we have had a Watch D.O.G. on campus every day. Having an extra pair of eyes and ears in the hallways, during class changes, and in the cafeteria during lunches has been greatly appreciated. We love our WATCH D.O.G.S.!”

Thank you Watch D.O.G.S!
