Aldine ISD to have two spellers compete at Houston Public Media Spelling Bee

SB_school media kit.jpgAldine ISD will have two students compete at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 23. The event will be held at the Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D. Ryan Middle School (2610 Elgin Street).

Representing Aldine will be Marina Ly, a seventh-grader at Shotwell Middle School who took top honors in Aldine’s District Spelling Bee.

She will be joined at the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee by Guadalupe Ledezma, an eighth-grader at Mead Middle School. Guadalupe finished in second place at the district event.

Marina and Guadalupe will compete against more than 50 other top spellers who will be vying for an all-expenses-paid-trip to the 2019 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May. The top two spellers will advance to the Scripps National in Washington, D.C.

Final rounds and highlights will be broadcast on Channel 8 and streamed on houstonpublicmidia.org/spellingbee at 5 p.m.
