Aldine FFA, art students earn $199,972 at annual Livestock Show

Grand ChampionThe Aldine community once again stepped up to the plate and rewarded Aldine ISD FFA (Future Farmers of America) students and art students for their hard work and creativity by spending $199,972 on projects and art work during the 57th annual Livestock Show and Country Fair, held Jan. 25-29 at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center. The 2016 Sale of Champions exceeded the 2015 Sale of Champions by $31,151.

The Sale of Champions brought in $179,943, while the art auction and re-sales brought in an additional $20,029. For the second consecutive year, the grand champion steer was raised by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School. Her steer Bo was purchased by John and Ginger Morvant for $17,500. The reserve grand champion steer was raised by Hannah Emmons of MacArthur High School and it was purchased by the Operations Group for $11,000.

The grand champion pig was raised by Alejandra Tobar of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by Caldwell Companies for $5,250. The reserve grand champion pig was raised by Alejandro Rodriguez of MacArthur High School and was purchased by the MacArthur Vertical Group for $6,000.

The grand champion goat was raised by Donald Jones of Aldine High School and was purchased by the Aldine Vertical Group for $4,000. The reserve grand champion goat was raised by Autumn Taylor of Nimitz High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $3,000.

The grand champion lamb was raised by Ana Velasquez of Aldine High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $5,500. The reserve grand champion lamb was raised by Alejandra Tobar of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Optimist Club for $2,000.

The grand champion turkey Tom was raised by Donald Jones of Aldine High School and was purchased by Beasley Tires for $4,500. The reserve grand champion turkey Tom was raised by Nickalas Cain of Eisenhower High School and was purchased by the Eisenhower Vertical Group for $2,000.

The grand champion turkey hen was raised by David Garza of MacArthur High School and was purchased by the MacArthur Vertical Group for $3,500. The reserve grand champion turkey hen was raised by Andrea Doucet of Nimitz High School and was purchased by the Optimist Club for $2,000.

The grand champion broilers were raised by Madison Kelch of Nimitz High School and were purchased by the Aldine Buyer’s Group for $2,500. The reserve grand champion broilers were raised by Norma Gamez of MacArthur High School and were purchased by the MacArthur Vertical Group for $3,000.

The grand champion scholarship cake was produced by Davis High School and was purchased by the Davis Vertical Group for $1,000.

The grand champion art project was produced by Dulce Chavez of Nimitz High School and was purchased by John and Ginger Morvant for $3,250. The reserve grand champion art project was produced by Beattriz Cabrerra of MacArthur High School and was purchased by the Superintendent’s Group for $2,500.

The money earned by FFA students can be used for college scholarships or to fund projects for the 2017 Livestock Show and Country Fair.
