The Groom-A-Kid Foundation Reading Literacy Initiative to launch Oct. 31

Patricia Ann BourgeoisPatricia A Bourgeois, Aldine ISD Board Member and Founder of The Groom -A- Kid Foundation, has launched an after school tutorial, The Reading Literacy Initiative.

The after school reading tutorial aims to fill in the reading gap of public school students who do not comprehensively read at their grade level starting as early as the third grade.

The Three Domains of reading will be practiced: Cognitive,(vocabulary and comprehension), Physical (fluency and stamina), and Emotional (interest and motivation).

The no-cost tutorials are offered every first, second, and fourth Monday. The first tutorials will be held on Monday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.

Tutorials are held at community-based business, The Barber Street, Barber Shop, located at 5102 Aldine Bender (832) 630-0500.

Reading materials are provided by the non-profit ReadWorks.

ReadWorks is presented by leading researchers and teachers in research-based comprehension instruction.
