Eisenhower High School basketball player Ja’Mare Redus has been named a finalist for the 2019 Guy V. Lewis Award.

Redus is one of 10 Houston-area finalists for the award. The winner is named the Greater Houston Area Boys High School Player of the Year. Redus is a 6-0, 175-pound point guard/shooting guard for James Johnson’s Eagles.

The award, in its ninth year of existence, is named after former University of Houston head basketball coach Guy V. Lewis. Lewis led the Cougars from 1956-1986 and brought the University of Houston into national prominence in college basketball.

During his tenure, Lewis led the Cougars to five Final Fours, won nearly 600 games and was a pioneer of the college game.

Redus has led the Eagles to back-to-back playoff appearances and led his squad to the Region II Tournament in 2018.

The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the O’Quinn Great Hall at the University of Houston Alumni Center.
