Astros, Vines EC/PK Center Promote Healthy Living

In November, Vines EC/PK Center held its 4th Annual Wellness Walk to promote well-being and healthy eating habits. The annual event, which is sponsored by the Aldine Independent School District, increases wellness awareness for students, staff and the Aldine community by providing information about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, making better food choices, and increasing physical activity.

This year more than 500 prekindergarten students, their parents, teachers and community partners participated. The event also served to continue to develop a school-parent partnership, which is essential for a child’s success.

The event had students walk the track at Sylvester Turner Park. The route took the students on a one-mile jaunt through the beautiful Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth baseball fields. Halfway through the walk, Vines students were greeted by Daryle Wade, manager of the Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Academy. Principal Linda Reed, Brandon Denton, instructional specialist, and intern Demitrius Gatewood of Vines EC/PK Center assisted Wade by ensuring each of the students received an Astros lunch box courtesy of the Houston Astros MLB Urban Youth Organization.
