Aldine ISD Performing and Visual Arts Students Showcased at TASA/TASB Convention

One hundred-fifty performing and visual arts students in grades K-12 represented Aldine ISD in Dallas on Sept. 28 as they performed during the second General Session of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA)/Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Convention.

Band, choir, dance, drama, and visual arts students from schools all over Aldine ISD have practiced for the past five months preparing for this Broadway style musical review included interactive video featuring many Aldine ISD graduates. It is customary for the district of the presiding TASB president to present a program featuring accolades of their school district. The current president of TASB is Aldine ISD school board member Dr. Viola M. Garcia.

Aldine Dance Company and Carver High School Dance Company, directed by Sarita Salinas, performed on stage using two video projected skate board ramps and Lauren Martinez, Drew Middle School student, performed an aerial dance on silk scarves hung from the ceiling of the Dallas Convention Center.

Jose Diaz, Band Director at MacArthur High School wrote the original music for the show and Thomas Juneau wrote the commissioned piece, “Together We Can.” Production Director Colleen Riddle, Elementary Performing Arts Program Director and Sarita Salinas along with Aldine students wrote the original script. Choir directors for the production were Daryle Freeman of Davis High School and Kitty Amshoff, Aldine Children’s Honor Choir director. Joey Doyle was the art director for Aldine ISD and Roshunda Jones was the drama director. Courtnay Holiday was the choir accompanist and Jackie Spears is the children’s choir assistant.
