Northwest Volunteer Fire Department Visits Carter Academy

The Northwest Volunteer Fire Department recently visited Carter Academy to talk with the students about fire safety. Every student attended the event and learned about when to call 911 and when not to, the importance of each student knowing his or her home address, how to properly use a fire extinguisher and ensuring that fire detectors are working properly. The firefighters also talked about the equipment they use to put out fires and how they handle other emergencies. They demonstrated how they put on their gear as well as the “stop, drop, cover your eyes and roll” procedure. The students also had the opportunity to take a close look at a fire engine.

The Northwest Volunteer Fire Department has three stations — #41, #42 and #43 — that serve 22 square miles.
