Twenty boys and girls participated in the 15th Annual Harris Academy Spelling Bee. The boys and girls have spent many weeks practicing their words and going through practice bees with Dixie Allen, school literacy specialist at the campus.
Cindy Buchanan, AISD program director of library media services; Innetta Carter, principal at the campus; and Dyslexia Specialist Muriel Smith, dyslexia specialist at Harris Academy, judged the campus competition this year.
One by one the students approached the microphone and listened for their word from Allen going through 16 rounds of spelling before eventually naming a winner. The top speller this year is fourth grader Sydnei Dirden with Diego Medina finishing as runner-up.
A huge thank you goes to the parents, teachers, and classmates of all the students for their incredible support and attendance at the campus spelling bee.
