Carver High Student Wins Barnes & Noble Essay Contest
Carver High School senior Nhi Vu won Barnes & Noble’s “My Favorite Teacher” essay contest for the essay she wrote about her teacher Jessica Gray. Nhi’s essay was named the district winner among those submitted to Houston-area stores. More than 1,000 essays were submitted.
Her essay will move onto the regional competition and if she wins there, it will move onto nationals.
On Thursday, March 27, Lillian Ficarra Reitz, fourth on the right, visited Carver to announce the good news. Nhi was unable to attend the event because she was on a field trip, but her parents Minh and Phu represented her during the celebration ceremony, complete with noisemakers and balloons. Nhi’s teacher, Jessica Gray, is pictured with the essay Nhi wrote about her and also pictured is Carver High School principal Rosalyn Sweat. Nhi and Gray will be honored at a reception on April 12 at Barnes & Noble’s Champion store.
They will each receive certificates and “surprises” from Barnes & Noble.
