Aldine ISD Trustee Viola García Elected to National Board

Dr. Viola M. García has joined the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]National School Boards Association (NSBA) board of directors. The organization’s Delegate Assembly recently elected García to a Southern Region position. The assembly named García to the position during the NSBA Annual Conference held in New Orleans April 5-7.

García is immediate past president of the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). She is the current vice-president of the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine ISD school board.

A professor at the University of Houston-Downtown, García has served as an [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine ISD Trustee since 1992. She has held every office on the board. García has also chaired many committees on the school board. A couple of committees she has served on include Project 2000 and the Campus Planning Committee. García is also a life member of the PTA and served as the education liaison for the Greater Inwood Super Neighborhood Council.

In 2004, TASB elected García to serve a one-year term on the organization’s Board of Directors. She also served as a member of the Lone Star Investment Pool Board from 2003 to 2009. She currently serves as a member of the TASB Executive and Planning and Development committees. García also chairs the TASB Nominations Committee.

Active in other groups, she is a fellow of the American Leadership Forum-Houston Education Class 2. García participated in the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Reform Governance in Action (RGA) program. RGA is a comprehensive two-year training program for school boards and superintendents.

She is an active member of the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO). García is also a member of the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Mexican American School Board Members Association (MASBA). She is a past president of MASBA.

NSBA is the leading advocate for public education. The association supports equity and excellence in public education through school board leadership. NSBA represents state school boards associations. According to NSBA website, there are more than 90,000 local school board members throughout the U.S.
