Calvert Elementary School Student Passes Blind Audition to Compete in ‘La Voz Kids’

Juan Manuel Velez, a student at Calvert Elementary School, made it past the blind auditions of [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]”La Voz Kids.” He is on Team Prince Royce.

“La Voz Kids” is the Spanish version of the show “The Voice” but contestants are kids. The Spanish-language musical talent show airs on Telemundo on Sunday evenings. “La Voz Kids” kicked off its second season with more than 2,230,000 viewers.

In the blind audition, Juan Manuel dressed in a Mariachi suit sang “Que te vaya bonito.” Coach Prince Royce selected the eight-year-old singer for his team.

The battle rounds began April 27. During the feared battle, each Coach had three members of his own team compete against each other by performing the same song together. After each encounter, the Coaches had to make the difficult decision of choosing which of the three kids would advance to the finals of the competition. Juan Manuel did not compete in the first battle round.

The battle rounds of Telemundo’s “La Voz Kids” continue next Sunday, May 4, at 7 p.m. (central time) when 18 more kids will compete and six of them will be selected to continue to the final phase. After the three battle rounds, a total of 18 kids will face each other off in a spectacular individual competition. During this phase, Coaches and viewers will vote to keep the best kids in the competition leading to the grand finale on June 8.

The three judges are Natalia Jiménez Sarmiento, Prince Royce and Roberto Tapia. Jiménez is a Spanish singer. She was the lead singer of the Spanish pop band La 5a Estación. Royce is an American singer-songwriter and record producer from The Bronx. And Tapatia is an American singer who is well known within the Regional Mexican genre.
