Houston Academy Students Participate in AISD’s Annual Strings Festival
More than 100 Houston Academy students participated in the district’s Strings Festival. The event took place in the spring at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center.
According to Denise Gaudiano, magnet schools specialist and fine arts department chair at the campus, the students did an outstanding job presenting “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from the Broadway and movie musical The Lion King. Choir members Jocelyn Dorsey and Sharai Ford also participated. The fifth graders sang the roles of Zazu and Simba.
A big thank you goes out to Dawn M. Braxton, orchestra teacher and conductor; Courtnay Holiday, piano accompanist and concert choir director; Judith James and Cheryl Knighton as well as the many volunteers. The strings program at the campus also thanks Principal Ruby Allen, Mark Mitchell, assistant principal at the campus; and Tamara Fleming.
