MacArthur High’s David Lehman Named Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) recently named David Lehman, a Spanish teacher and the Spanish National Honor Society sponsor at MacArthur High School, a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction.

The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award recognizes teacher role models who have made a lasting difference in their classroom by encouraging students to strive for excellence.

NSHSS believes that educators should be recognized for their commitment and impact of to youth. This recognition often means the most when it comes from those who view their educator as a role model and positive influence in their lives. Students whose grades qualify them to be a member of the society have the opportunity to nominate teachers for the prize. They are limited to nominating one educator who has made the most significant contribution to their academic career.

The NSHSS invited Lehman to traveled to San Diego on June 6 where he was presented with a personalized certificate.

Lehman felt honored to be named.

“This is a great honor,” said Lehman. “But I am also very humbled by the experience. I know there are many, many wonderful teacher at MacArthur High. As an educator, it is nice to know I am making a difference in students’ lives.”

Lehman also had the opportunity to meet the Award’s namesake Claes Nobel. Mr. Nobel, a relative of Peace Prize namesake Alfred Nobel, is the society’s founder. The program recognizes the contributions of teachers to students’ achievement. There are more than 30,000 educators of distinction.
