Nimitz High’s Tomas Gonzales a PCA scholarship finalist

Nimitz High School senior Tomas Gonzales was recognized as a Positive Coaching Alliance Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Finalist at the 5th Annual PCA-Houston Awards Banquet held at the River Oaks Country Club, Saturday, Oct. 18.

Triple-Impact competitors are committed to excellence in three levels: Self-working hard to make themselves better by pursuing personal mastery; Teammates – leading to make those around them better; The Game – honoring the game to make the game itself better.

More than 200 student-athletes were nominated from schools in the Greater-Houston area. Thirty-seven scholarship finalists including Tomas were named and awarded scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $5,000.

Gonzales, a three-year letterman and baseball standout, was nominated by Nimitz High head baseball coach Kirk Thompson.
“Tomas is a great leader and role model both on and off the field. It has been a pleasure to coach Tomas the past three seasons and we are looking forward to a great season from him this year,” said Thompson.

Joining Tomas at the event were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gonzales, Tomas’ grandmother and younger brother, Coach Thompson, Nimitz High School Principal Dr. Crystal Watson, and Director of Athletics, Richard Delgado.
