Hoffman Middle School Teacher Selected to Present at 2015 IB Conference of the Americas
The campus recently announced that one of its teachers will present at the IB Conference of the Americas. The event is set July 23-26 in Chicago.
Barbra Clemons’ proposal “The Story Begins” developed last year. She and fellow teacher Loretta Asevedo received a Texas IB Schools Innovative Teaching Award. The campus was one of six schools in the state to receive the grant. Clemons and Asevedo developed an interactive notebook to collect information.
The humanities teacher will have folks at the conference take part in the hands on interactive session. Her presentation will help them create a tool to collect information. This data is relevant to the IB Middle School Years Program components. She especially focuses on the Approaches to Learning skills objective. Participants will work in groups to discuss and plan IB lessons they can be take back to their students and their home schools.
She presented the same session at the ESC Region 4 Social Studies Conference this spring. She presented it under the title “IB Interactive Notebook — Approaches to Learning.”
The annual conference provides an opportunity for educational leaders to share best practices while fostering partnership and participation. It also provides pedagogical leadership and international mindedness.
