Grantham Academy’s Student Council, Club Pink Take Part in Community for Youth Service Day Project

Grantham Academy’s Student Council and Club Pink recently joined the East End Community for Youth Service Day sponsored by Starbucks.

Starbucks and the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans partnered on a project to remodel Sánchez Charter School, an AAMA campus. Besides painting and landscaping, the project included career development workshops.

Grantham students painted the clinic. The campus will likely use it for the young men admitted to the residential facility.

The Grantham represented the largest group of students from a campus. Rita Hernández is proud of the students. She serves as a counselor at the campus.

“I am proud of the students for taking time to help others,” Hernández said. “It is important to instill in students the importance of an education. But it is also important to teach them that it is important to help your community too.”

The students enjoyed the community service project.

“It was interesting to see so many people involved to do a volunteering project,” said Priscilla Corpus.

“It was fun to work hard to help people,” added Makayla Jones.

“It was fun helping other people,” Ángel Garza said.

Students Makayla Jones, Jazmine Canton, Itzel Guerrero, and Melory Canizales have some fun. Génesis Solís Barbosa, Alexandra Manriquez and Johana Cisneros get in the fun too. Patrick Campbell and Rita Hernández worked along with the students. Campbel serves as the Student Council advisor. Hernández serves as the advisor for Club Pink.
