[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]N[/dropcap]inth grade students weren’t alive or old enough to be touched emotionally by September 11, 2001. That day is a history lesson for students today. At Aldine Ninth Grade School, students spent time studying and researching the event in U.S. history.

Most adults remember exactly where they were on 9/11. The same can’t be said for most school-aged students. A high school senior was 3 or 4 at the time.

On the morning of 9/11, jetliners slammed into the World Trade Center, Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. Elementary and middle school students never saw televised images of the crumbling towers. They didn’t see the many first-responders who lost their lives in trying to save others. They never felt the threat of terrorism that rose 14 years ago.

Art teacher Leanne Dry had students in her classes create a project. After studying the events of 9/11, they also reflected on what their parents told them. Students then created artwork to show their feelings about this moment in history.

The [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Aldine Ninth students placed the artwork on a 9/11 Memorial Wall in the cafeteria. This served as a reminder that no one will forget 9/11.
