The federally funded undertaking is the first of its kind in Texas and the United States. Drew students and community members will grow vegetables and fruit and share their harvest with the Acres Homes community.

Joining Congresswoman Lee at the ribbon cutting ceremony were Aldine ISD Trustees Dr. Viola M. Garcia, Steve Mead, and Paul Shanklin and Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg. Representatives from the USDA, Houston Community College System, Lone Star College System and members of the Acres Homes community also took part in the event. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, orange trees donated by Congresswoman Lee’s office were planted.
