Hill Intermediate School Students Promote Breast Cancer Awareness, Raise Funds for the Cause

[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]H[/dropcap]ill Intermediate School’s Climate Committee organized several campus events in October. The group promoted Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Committee designated October 23 as “Pink Out Day.” The Committee encouraged students and staff members to wear pink.
The Climate Committee served lemonade. They also sought donations in exchange for pink Breast Cancer Awareness bracelets. Assistant Mary Ann Melby handed out the bracelets. The group raised $615. The money went to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Fifth grade students (l-r) Ana Trujillo, Lucía Mar, and Ivonne Manjarrez donated to the cause. In exchange for their donation, they enjoyed some tasty pink lemonade.
The Committee also provided staff members at [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Hill with small paper pink ribbons. Committee members encouraged staff to decorate the ribbons. They could also dedicate a ribbon to someone affected by the disease. To remember the events, the committee students created a collage using the ribbons and event pictures.
As a final project, Andrea Brown passed out pink cupcakes to staff. Brown is chairperson of the Climate Committee.
“This has been wonderful month,” said Brown. “It’s been fantastic to see so much generosity from our students and staff. Everyone really got into the Pink campaign! I’m so proud of [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]our school.”
