For the Houston Texans the season is over. Yet, fans will remember the local team’s great run. Cheering the fans and team members were the sounds of the Texans’ pep band.

The Deep Steel Thunder, previously known as the Bull Pen Pep Band, first performed in 2003. The musical group formed at the request of Robert McNair, founder and CEO of the Houston Texans. The 36-member band consists of a brass section, drum line, electric bass and Latin percussion. The musicians entertain Texan fans before, during and after the game.

Over the years, the pep band has had changes such as the number of musicians. But the group still consists of professional musicians and music educators.

Deep Steel Thunder plays at home games. Fans will find them marching through the parking lot with tailgaters. The band also marches up and down the ramps with the fans 45 minutes before kickoff. During the halftime, the musicians perform at two locations around the main concourse.

The band also makes special appearances. This season Deep Steel Thunder played at Draft Day and Tailgating 101. The group also performed at the Houston Texans Running of the Bulls 5K event.

This year four Aldine ISD [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]band directors auditioned for and became members of Deep Steel Thunder.
