Stehlik Intermediate School Educator Receives Region 4 Elementary Teacher of the Year Honor

Region 4 bestowed the Aldine ISD educator with the award for her excellence in the classroom.

[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]R[/dropcap]egion 4 recently named Laura Hamilton as the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Dale Jensen from Clear Creek ISD was chosen as the Secondary Teacher of the Year.

All the regional candidates attended the Teachers of the Year Dinner and Award Ceremony held Aug. 3 at [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Region 4.

Hamilton is a language arts teacher at Stehlik Intermediate School. She has 14 years of teaching experience with 11 of those years in Aldine ISD. The educator believes that it is her responsibility to prepare students for the future.

“My goal is to empower students to transform their lives,” said Hamilton. “I am not just preparing my students for the next grade level or for the STAAR (state standardized test).

“I am preparing them for their future as employees, spouses and parents. I want them to be valuable contributors to our community.”

The teachers advance as Region 4’s candidates in their respective categories as finalists for the 2017 Texas Teacher of the Year honor. The [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) sponsors the Texas Teacher of the Year program.

Semifinalist judging takes place at the TASA Headquarters in Austin later this month. Judging determines the six Texas Teacher of the Year finalists. Judges will interview the finalists later this fall. They will select one Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and one Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year. TASA will select one of the two winners to represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program.

The Texas Teacher of the Year Awards Ceremony is set for Oct. 14 in Austin.
