MacArthur High School’s Justin Singleton Among Educators Honored by Texas Governor Greg Abbott

Gov. Abbott praised the best and brightest educators from across the state at the Governor’s Mansion.

[dropcap color=”#888″ type=”square”]T[/dropcap]exas Governor Greg Abbott honored more than 100 outstanding educators from across the state this spring. Teacher Justin Singleton from MacArthur High School was among the honored guests.

The idea to recognize the best teachers for going above and beyond in their efforts to help students stemmed from a meeting Governor Abbott had with teachers in December 2016. He stated that he learned a lot about the long hours educators face, thanks in part to his wife, Cecilia, who has been a teacher and a school principal.

The educators enjoyed a backyard barbecue reception at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin. They represented a variety of Texas school districts.

There were two Elementary Teachers of the Year Award winners, a Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year and 18 Milken Award winners. Singleton is a 2007 Milken Educator Award recipient. He is currently a social studies teacher at MacArthur High School.

Governor Abbott praised attendees for their hard work and commitment to making a difference in the lives of students.

“I thank all of our talented educators across the state for striving to make a difference in the lives of their students,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas schools are filled with some of the best educators in America who are called to their profession in guiding the future leaders of this great state, and the entire country. As Governor, it is my goal to make Texas schools the best in America, and I will continue to work hard alongside our educators to achieve this goal.”
