Aldine Noon Optimist Club donates bikes to AISD elementary schools to promote reading

Aldine ISD Trustees Connie Esparza, third from left, and Steve Mead pose with Optimist Club members Judy Hoya, Stacey Smith, AISD School Assistant Superintendents Pat Leon-Wade, Dr. Janet Ray and Dr. Linda Rodriguez and Aldine Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jackie Metcalfe as the Optimist Club donated 68 boys and girls bikes (two for each of Aldine ISD’s 34 elementary schools) to promote the Optimist Club’s fourth annual Reading Contest. The Optimist Club believes reading is the key to all academic success and the organization supports Aldine ISD in assisting students become better readers. AISD elementary students will have their names put in a drawing for every book they read. At the end of the contest, a boy and girls’ names will be drawn and the winners will each receive a new bicycle. In addition to serving as the secretary on the Aldine ISD Board of Trustees, Mr. Mead is also president of the Aldine Noon Optimist Club.
