Walmart #1837 Adopts A.W. Jones Elementary

A.W. Jones Elementary employees were recently surprised with baskets full of school supplies and materials in time for the first day of school. Walmart #1837 employees visited the campus during their “Day of Giving.”

The store chose to adopt the elementary school for the 2019-2020 school year because several members of their staff have students who attend A.W. Jones. Craig Van Baarle, Walmart #1837 co-manager, explained that they wanted to make an impact in the community by helping students and staff put their best foot forward as they begin a new school year.

“It feels good to be acknowledged by our parents and a community partner in this way,” Cheryl Fontenot, Jones Elementary principal said. “We are excited to have their support and make sure our students are well taken care of.”

Walmart #1837 will also continue their support throughout the school year by providing a $10,000 grant to the school, monthly staff appreciation incentives and quarterly student incentives, which include iPads for good behavior.
