Aldine ISD Students Attend Girls in Construction Conference

Hundreds of hardhats and lime green safety vests filled the floor of M.O. Campbell Educational Center, as middle and high school girls dispersed from the stands to explore hands-on construction activities around the room. 

Aldine ISD in partnership with C3 – Construction Career Collaborative and Houston National Association of Women in Construction, hosted over 1,100 middle and high school students for the She Builds Houston Construction Conference. The unique all girls construction conference is a first for the Houston area. The conference allowed Aldine ISD students to explore the various career opportunities in the construction industry.

The event began with a dynamic panel of women speaking about their different career paths in the construction industry and the variety of opportunities available for young women to start a career in the field. Throughout the event, students spoke with representatives from different construction companies and participated in learning activities. Activities included nail driving, architect design competitions and interior finish races. College representatives from University of Houston School College of Technology and Texas State Technical College were available to discuss undergraduate degree options and programs.
