Reed Academy students are celebrated for their character

Reed Academy hosted their second Early Act First Knight Knighting Ceremony.

The Early Act First Knight program focuses on character development and emphasizes the development of social and emotional learning. The year-long curriculum helps students adopt qualities that increase academic achievement, build healthy relationships, and create an overall positive learning experience on campus.

Each month, the program focuses on one characteristic. The virtue of the month for January was honesty. The students who exhibit the characteristic or “virtue of the month” are celebrated at a special knighting ceremony. One scholar from each classroom is nominated by their teacher to receive a special medal from a real Knight. They will also be inducted into the Willowbrook Rotary Club Gallery of Champions.

During the ceremony each teacher explained why they chose to nominate their student for the virtue of the month. The students were then greeted on stage by Knight Sir James and were given a special medallion. After receiving their medals the students sat on stage for the rest of the ceremony. Students receiving the Virtue of Honesty medal were also surprised by their parents during the ceremony.  The students ended their special program with the Rotary’s Four Way Test, which is one of the core fundamentals of the curriculum.

The Willowbrook Rotary Club has sponsored Reed Academy for the cost of the Early Act First Knight program. The grant helps the campus provide the program at no cost.
