UIL Suspends All Contests, Practices, Rehearsals Through May 4
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) has updated its suspension of all UIL contests through May 4 due to COVID-19.
The UIL previously communicated that all activities were suspended through March 30, but given information related to school closures available at this time, the organization is expanding that timeframe.
UIL games and contests will resume no earlier than Monday, May 4.
The UIL will provide a reasonable acclimatization period for rehearsals and practices to occur, consistent with the advice of local, state and federal officials. The UIL will reevaluate the beginning dates for practices and rehearsals as it receives more information about schools resuming.
If spring football practice is canceled altogether, football workouts would resume on Aug. 3 and teams would be able to add an additional scrimmage as they prepare for the 2020 football season.
Harrison said the UIL will continue to make informed decisions and provide school districts with amended plans as they become available to the UIL.
