Victory Early College HS, Carver HS Make U.S. News & World Report 2020 List of Best High Schools

The Aldine ISD campuses ranked in the top 5%, and 25% of the more than 24,000 schools ranked.

The U.S. News List of 2020 Best High Schools ranks more than 24,000 public high schools across the nation based on how well they serve all of their students regardless of economic or ethnic background, according to an April 21 news release.

The annual rankings provide comprehensive, data-based information on nearly every public high school in the country.

Families can use this information to see how their local schools compare on graduation rates and state assessments, as well as an overall academic performance by traditionally underserved students – those who are black, Hispanic, or from low-income households.

Schools were evaluated on various factors, including graduation rates, college readiness (which is measured by AP® and IB® exam performance), reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, and college curriculum breadth, according to the report. The rankings are also offered on the state, metro area, and school district level. Only school districts with three or more high schools were included.

Carver HS earned nine Tommy Tune nominations in the 2020 competition and brought home three of the coveted awards.

The district’s early college high school ranked in the top 5% of schools in the nation. Another Aldine ISD school did well overall. Carver HS for Engineering, Applied Technology, and the Arts ranked #3,390, placing it in the top 25% nationally.

On the state level, 7.1% of the 1,485 Texas schools that were evaluated ranked in the top 5% nationally, while 11.7% ranked in the top 10%, and 24.9% ranked in the top 25%.
