Hoffman C.A.R.E.S. and FACE Teams Brings School Spirit to the Community

The Hoffman Middle School C.A.R.E.S. and FACE teams partnered with the Aldine ISD Family and Community Engagement (FACE) department to bring campus information, school spirit, and community resources to families at Linda Vista Apartments. Linda Vista is one of the apartment complexes zoned to Hoffman. It is home to about 20 Hornet Nation students, and half of those families selected at-home learning this year. 

Waving black and yellow pom poms, the Hoffman team clapped and sang a spirited cheer to liven up the apartment complex. 

“Hornet Nation Pride is Hard to Hide,” is what the Hoffman Middle School team chanted around the complex. They wanted all of their students and families to know that they were on site and ready to see them. 

C.A.R.E.S. stands for Caring and Reaching Every Student/Staff. C.A.R.E.S. is a district initiative birthed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The joint effort between the campus C.A.R.E.S. and FACE teams provided Hoffman families an opportunity to receive additional school supplies while learning at-home. The FACE team gave out raffle prizes, which included a backpack with supplies, a Hornet Nation t-shirt, and books donated by the Aldine ISD FACE department and City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. 

“Partnerships with our community are so important during this time,” Jasmine Oguntuga, Hoffman Middle School teacher and FACE Liaison said. “We want to ensure that our Hoffman students learning on campus and at home have the resources they need to succeed.”

Those resources go far beyond helping with technology or school work. The campus enlisted the help of BakerRipley East Aldine to bring information about upcoming food drives, voting registration information, and additional resources they provide community members.

The campus wants to do all they can to continue providing families with information to help their children with school. The C.A.R.E.S. and FACE teams created packets of information for families, which included Schoology information, Home Access Center login help, technology support, and library resources. 

The event was a reminder for the students and families that Hornet Nation pride does not stop at school. The campus staff brought excitement and energy to the apartment complex clubhouse. The campus plans to visit each apartment complex in their community. 

Oguntuga explained, “this is only the beginning.” 

The Hoffman C.A.R.E.S. and FACE teams have so much more to offer their students. Later in October, they plan on partnering again to host a drive-thru Treat and Read event. 

Hoffman C.A.R.E.S. will continue to focus on meeting the needs of both students and teachers. The FACE team will maintain partnerships with both parents and community leaders.
