Families learned about all the choices and opportunities for students as young as 3 and in Grades PreK-12.

Aldine ISD hosted its 3rd Annual Festival de Primavera on Saturday, April 27, at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center. The event was an opportunity for Spanish-speaking families to learn all things Aldine without a language barrier. The district staff held the event entirely in Spanish.

The district targeted the Spanish-speaking community, the largest demographic in Aldine ISD, to ensure key messages and information were reaching families and students. According to Altagracia’ Grace’ Delgado, executive director of the Multilingual Department, face-to-face communication is the number one way to communicate with Hispanic families. Her department is sponsoring the event.

April was the perfect time to host the event since it is Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month. Aldine ISD has over 27,640 students identified as emergent bilinguals, but almost 34,400 families list Spanish on their home language survey.

After speaking with families, award-winning author Marcelo Verdad signed books.

Families spoke with school representatives and staff members from different departments to learn more about the district, School Choice options, and other programs and services. The festival has something for all ages. Families also took home free books. This year’s guest award-winning author was Marcelo Verdad, and guest speakers included Dr. José Luis Zelaya and Bonding Against Adversity.

District partners and sponsors of the event included Baker-Ripley, Texas Children’s Hospital, Harris County Public Library, Young Audiences Arts for Learning Houston, Community Health Choice, Complete Dental Kids, Telemundo, and more.

A big “thank-you” goes out to everyone who attended the festival and the volunteers and sponsors who made it happen.
