Carver High School, Drew Academy Students to Perform in MEXICA Mariachi Festival at University of Houston on August 2

Mariachi students from Carver High School and Drew Academy have been participating in the MEXICA Mariachi Festival‘s summer camp at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.

The MEXICA Mariachi Festival provides local students expert instruction in mariachi and ballet folklórico. Participants work with Houston’s most accomplished professional mariachi, including UH professor José Longoria. Each Festival day includes instrument-specific workshops, ensemble rehearsals, and singing and dancing classes. A culminating performance will be presented on Friday, August 2.

“Everyone is invited to support the fantastic work throughout the past two weeks of camp,” said Jaime Alanís, mariachi director at Carver High School. “The concert will include participation from all mariachi programs in Houston’s surrounding schools and showcase ballet folklórico dance. We can not wait to see everyone and support the mariachi program at Aldine ISD.”
