Aldine ISD Counselors Win CREST Award

On Friday, Dec. 20, Aldine ISD’s Goodman Elementary earned the Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Award, given by the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) for the 2023-2024 school year. The award highlights the exemplary counselor work being done for the support and success of the students.

Goodman Elementary counselors Kesha Franks and Shalondra Moore were the award recipients.

In 2005, TSCA began the CREST program to recognize schools with outstanding counseling programs. Schools receiving CREST awards have demonstrated a commitment using the Texas Model to improve the lives and achievement of students in academic, career, and personal social domains.

“This marks a significant achievement as it is the first time a school in our district has earned this recognition,” said Director of Guidance and Counseling, Josefina Trevino-Garcia. “We are thrilled and believe this is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the outstanding work of our counselors.”

CREST looks at the counseling program in five categories:

• Introduction to the School and the Role of the Professional School Counselor
• Program Implementation Cycle
• Foundational Components
• Four Service Delivery Components
• Program Curriculum

The counseling team prepared a digital submission that highlighted the five areas and communicated what the counseling program is doing to help students succeed. The submission was then sent to reviewers throughout the state of Texas to be judged according to pre-set standards of excellence.
