Griggs EC/PreK/K School Celebrates International Dot Day
On September 15, Griggs EC/PK/K School School celebrated International Dot Day, a global event inspired by the children’s book, “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds. The day encourages students to embrace creativity, courage, and collaboration.
This year marked the fourth annual celebration at Griggs EC/PK/K School.
“It’s a beautiful thing for the children at this early age to realize what they do matters,” said Principal Sherree Johnson. “No matter if they are not excelling as fast as others, just as long as they are trying, they will eventually reach their highest potential.”
To celebrate, students painted portraits of dots, which were displayed throughout the campus to showcase their creativity. Students and staff were also encouraged to wear their most spirited Dot Day attire.
“I celebrated Dot Day by making my own shirt all by myself,” said Isaac, a student.
Storytime
Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney and other district leaders participated in the festivities by visiting classrooms and reading “The Dot” aloud to students.
Kara Cooper, the information literacy specialist at the school, stated, “International Dot Day encourages students to take a chance and believe in themselves.”
According to internationaldotday.org, over 34 million people have celebrated International Dot Day since 2011, making it a global movement of self-expression.
