You Have Options in Aldine ISD! Explore Your Opportunities! The application to attend a Choice School option in 2023-2024  is now available online. Apply TODAY! The First Lottery will be held on December 14.

Families and their students will be able to learn more about Aldine ISD’s school options (PreK-12) outside their attendance zones and in areas of interest by going to the district’s annual Choice Schools Festival this month. In addition to exploring school options for the 2023-2024 school year, families will learn about the Choice Schools application process.

Why choose Choice Schools? — A Best-Fit School for Your Child

All children are unique. Each learns differently, has aspirations for different careers, and is interested in different subjects: the more options that suit a student’s interests, the better for the student. The district believes that if all students can attend a high-quality school that matches their interests, they will achieve their academic potential. Families and their children can choose from Aldine’s various unique educational programs throughout the district. Each program provides students with the support they need in their areas of interest and offers extracurricular activities.

Magnet Schools & International Baccalaureate Programs

Aldine ISD’s magnet schools offer many themes, including the Montessori method, direct instruction, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). Additionally, Aldine ISD offers the entire International Baccalaureate (IB®) continuum — Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP), and Diploma Program (DP). The IB® program provides a rigorous curriculum. The IB® Diploma Program is a globally recognized honor curriculum with many colleges and universities awarding credit upon exam results.

Early College, CTE & P-TECH, Newcomer/Dual Language, Non-Traditional, Single-Gender, and Middle School College Prep

Early College/CTE/P-TECH Schools: Students have opportunities ranging from industry certifications to associate degrees. They can earn college credit in high school and complete their degree sooner.

Non-Traditional School: For students who thrive better in a non-traditional setting, there is a campus open for students in Grades 8-12, where they go at their own pace while still staying on track to graduate.

Middle School College Prep: school students looking to get ahead and have a college preparatory experience have an option to explore college and career pathways, college visits, academic support, and more.

Single-Gendered Schools: The all-girls school, which focuses on STEM, leadership, and college prep, will serve students in Grades 6-9 in the 2023-2024 school year. The campus will continue to add a grade level each year to become a Grades 6-12 campus by 2027-2028. The all-boys school —focusing on college prep, leadership, and entrepreneurship — currently serves Grades 1, 2, and 6 but will continue to add grade levels until it is a Grade 1-8 school. The all-boys school also offers a unique partnership with Prairie View A&M University.

Newcomer and Dual Language Experience: The school will serve students in Grades 9-11 in the 2023-2024 school year but will continue to add a grade level each year to become a Grade 9-12 campus by 2025-2026. The school specializes in working with two groups: 1) newcomers — students living three or fewer years in the U.S. with little to no English proficiency or coming from countries where English is not the language spoken — 2) and students who know English but want to strengthen their Spanish skills and have a truly bilingual experience. All students receive rigorous academics and college readiness while ensuring they are bi-literate, bilingual, and bicultural.

Two-Way Dual Language Option

The two-way dual-language program, launched in the fall of 2019 in kindergarten classrooms, has expanded by a grade level each year. It will grow to be a K-12 program. Students must start the program in kindergarten at one of five campuses designated campuses with the program. Students develop bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural skills and knowledge. Native English speakers and native Spanish speakers receive general academic instruction in two languages.

In addition to general information about each Choice School’s programs and opportunities, school faculty will provide students and families with course selections for the coming academic year. Current students involved in their programs, extracurriculars, and other unique services and opportunities will be on hand to share their experiences.

When will the applications be available for the 2023-2024 school year?

The Choice Schools application is now available online (click here).

The two-way dual language (TWDL) program uses a different application than the other Choice School options. The application is available online (see the link below). Parents interested in having their children participate in the TWDL program can apply at the Choice Schools Festival on October 29.

In the spring, schools will begin screening students for the program. To increase eligibility possibilities — the district delay screening to give students time to develop language.

How many schools can I choose for my child?

Families can choose up to three (3) schools ranking first, second, and third choice options.

NOTE: If a family only has ONE Choice School option they are interested in, they are advised to make that ONE their ONLY selection.

What happens if my first choice is unavailable?

If a family’s top Choice School option is unavailable, the second choice will be reviewed for seat availability.
