Victory Early College Student Advances to State Finals in Poetry Out Loud Competition

Disponible en: Español

Victory Early College High School junior Eva Booker is etching her name in the school’s history books as the first finalist in the Texas Poetry Out Loud competition. Her journey to the state finals on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Austin, is a source of immense pride for Victory ECHS and Aldine ISD.

Poetry Out Loud, a national arts education program, is significantly impacting Victory. It’s inspiring high school students like Eva Booker to engage with poetry through memorization and performance. This year, under the guidance of English faculty member and sponsor Derrick Johnson, Victory launched its own program, further enriching our students’ educational experience.

“In our inaugural year, having a student reach the state finals is a tremendous achievement,” Johnson said. “Eva’s dedication and talent exemplify the spirit of Victory Early College and Aldine ISD.”

The state-level winner will advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C., later this spring.
