Dear Aldine Community,

March is National Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the impact of women. When I think of the women who shaped my life——my grandmother Bigmama, my teachers such as my 4th-grade teacher Ms. Bradford, my college counselor Ms. Allen, and Dr. Stacey Edmonson, Dean of the College of Education at Sam Houston State University——I am truly grateful for their contributions in molding me into the person I am today. To inspire the young ladies in the district, it gave me great joy to host the Youth Empowerment Summit, which consisted of 150 sixth-grade girls——though I was more inspired by them! Our young ladies are destined for greatness, and it was such a privilege and honor to spend the morning with them.

We have many things to celebrate as our students shine this spring semester, demonstrating their skills and talents. Several of our Aldine students earned creative recognition at the 2025 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Emily Lucio was recognized with a Gold Key award during the regional contest and received the Harris County Department of Education Board of Trustees Incentive Art Award. Lucio and all the Scholastic Art and Writing Award winners will be honored on March 27 by the Harris County Department of Education.

The MacArthur High School Academic Decathlon team

We had 19 students from Carver, Davis, and Eisenhower High School named national qualifiers after the Texas Thespians Virtual Competition. Students will join over 50 AISD students who made nationals in person at the state festival in the fall semester. Our MacArthur High School Academic Decathlon team shined at the state competition earlier this month, with one of their teammates, Logan Haagenson, placing third with the highest overall score and receiving a $1,500 scholarship.

You often hear me say that Aldine ISD offers many choices and opportunities for our students and families, like our early childhood programs for children ages 3, 4, and 5 and the free Head Start program. It’s already time to register for PreK! On Saturday, April 5, families can attend our PreK Enrollment Expo. They will meet teachers and school leaders, learn about district resources like special education and English language learners, and connect with our community resource partners.
