The first cohort of Aldine ISD’s interior design P-TECH program graduates with industry-recognized credentials before high school commencement.

Sixteen seniors from Carver High School in Aldine ISD graduated this month with more than just a high school diploma — they also earned a Level 1 Workforce Certificate in Interior Decorating from Houston Community College.

The students are part of the first interior design P-TECH cohort, a four-year partnership between Carver High School and HCC that began when the students were freshmen. The program provides students with the opportunity to earn college credits and gain career-ready credentials while still in high school.

The certificate program is designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in the interior design industry. It can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Interior Design at HCC.

“Earning my HCC degree was more than just an academic milestone — it was the answer to a long-held prayer,” said senior Kayley Bivens. “As a young woman from a community where opportunities like this felt few and far between, I often dreamed big but lacked the resources to chase those dreams. The AISD Interior Design P-TECH/HCC program changed that.”

Bivens said the experience gave her a sense of purpose and showed her that “with faith, hard work, and the right support, dreams really can become reality.”

The 2025 graduating seniors who completed the program are Natalia Alegre, Keyla Alonso, Natalie Argueta, Kayley Bivens, Sofia Cárdenas, Cadence Chartian, Chase Farmer, Jaiden Givens, Noé González, Kameron Gourley, Diego Ibarra, Joelle Sánchez, Jaydia Tobias, Lesly Valdez, Tyler White and Emily Zúñiga.
