It’s back-to-school time for three of Aldine ISD campuses. Harris Elementary, Ermel Elementary, and Vines Primary School welcomed students back on Thursday, July 24, to kick off the 2025-26 school year.

The campuses are part of the Additional Days School Year (ADSY) program. The ADSY campuses offer students, staff, and families various opportunities, including class time tailored to individual students’ needs, increased recess and brain breaks during the school year, additional time for professional development, small-group instruction, extra time for families to hear about their child’s progress, and more.

Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney and the members of the Aldine ISD Executive Leadership Team stopped by each school to welcome students, staff, and families on the first day.

Kayla Fields has been a teacher in Aldine ISD for 11 years and is beginning her first year at Harris Elementary as a fourth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies teacher.

“I’m super excited to be here and meet my new students,” Fields said. “This year, I’m looking forward to building relationships with students and parents, and ensuring that my students grow. I want to make sure they’re ready to move to the fifth grade next year.”

Parents shared the same excitement as Fields. Lawrence Curry, whose two daughters are in first and second grade at Harris, said dropping them off on the first day was an awesome feeling.

“I hope they learn new things this year – things they didn’t get to last year – and continue to be productive in school,” he said.
