Nimitz Head Football Coach Cornelius Harmon Joins “Coaches 40-Under-40” List
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football recently released its annual “Coaches 40-Under-40” list, spotlighting the top young coaches in college and high school football across the state. This year, one of Aldine’s own earned a spot on the prestigious list — Nimitz Cougars Head Coach Cornelius Harmon.
Harmon was recognized for his remarkable success since being named head coach in 2022. According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, “Harmon has quietly built Aldine Nimitz into a perennial playoff team, posting a 21-11 record in three seasons. Before his arrival, the Cougars’ last winning season was 2007.”
The Port Arthur native and former collegiate football player at Texas Southern University, Coach Harmon, served as the offensive coordinator at his high school alma mater, Port Arthur Memorial High School, for nine years. He then spent four years in the same role at Summer Creek High School, where he achieved a 26-20 record and two playoff appearances.
Since joining Nimitz, Harmon has worked to replicate a college-driven program, focusing on both on-field performance and off-field success. His objective is to “put the best product on the field,” a testament to his commitment to excellence in every aspect of the program.
“He’s helped me become a better man,” said Albert Brown, quarterback for Nimitz Football. “Football is a game of life. Observing how he prepares and our discussions outside of football have shaped my development as a person. I approach the game differently, move differently, and make better decisions. I’m grateful to my coach for that.”
Under Harmon’s leadership, the Cougars have achieved a dramatic turnaround — three straight winning seasons and three consecutive playoff appearances. His work has brought a new era of pride, energy, and expectation to the Nimitz football program.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be recognized by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football,” Harmon said. “Anytime you can get recognized for something in our profession, you don’t take it lightly. There are a lot of great young coaches out there who deserve this recognition. I’m just honored to be one of them to represent Nimitz High School and the Aldine Independent School District.”
The Cougars will open their season against Katy Morton Ranch on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Rhodes Stadium.
